Two Afghan Hounds, Raven,
Xzotika's Nevermore, Martini, Cairo's Serve It Up, a
GSD, Cajun, and my family
and friends, lost their best, old time friend, Tally-Ho yesterday.
Tally-Ho was our Jack
Russell Terrorist as we fondly called him. (Among other nick-names)
This coming Thanksgiving
Day, would have marked Tally-Ho's nineteenth birthday. Yesterday
(August 30, 2010) afternoon
he passed away peacefully. Three years ago to the day, my GWP,
Mister, CH Blueline Mister
Class Act, CGC, CD, JC, K-9 Explosives Detection, Mantrailing,
passed away. The two
old friends have been laid to rest together, side by side in a
garden behind our house.
Now, I know lots of folks
would probably want to send condolences or say they're sorry for
our loss. Believe me,
this is not at all necessary and here's why.
Tally-Ho lived a
grand life! He might not have been a champion on record with the AKC,
but he was OUR CHAMPION!
He was a champion at all he did. He was best friends with
our dogs here at home
and the boss of all! I rather think I'm going to celebrate my little
buddy's life rather than
dwell on the fact that he is no longer with us.
He was a ball addict!
Soccer ball and Frisbee chasing champion! He actually could shove
and control a soccer
ball with his nose at full speed and bring it right back to my feet for
another big kick and
off he'd go again! He could catch a Frisbee on the fly and again, would
always bring it and drop
it to my feet for another throw. He was a great companion to my
children as they grew
up together. Never a dull moment! Guardian of the property as well!
One very fond memory
before I end writing.... I used to have an invisible fence. Tally-Ho
wore his electric collar
to keep him inside the yard. One week before Christmas, quite a
few years ago, the postal
delivery lady delivered a huge box of Christmas presents. She
was greeted by Tally-Ho
and allowed to drop the big box on our front porch. However,
when she turned to leave,
Tally-Ho would not allow her to do so. Instead, he pinned her on
top one of the front
porch chairs! She had to call her post master, who luckily for me, was
my best friend. She came
to my house and "rescued" the postal delivery lady from
the "vicious dog"!! She
then took Tally-Ho back up to the post office with her to show all
of the other postal workers
the "vicious dog" that would not allow the delivery lady to
exit our front porch!
Everyone had a big laugh! He was short and round! He was our best
friend! So, please celebrate
with my family and I, Tally-Ho's life!
